The Kaliwa Dam Project was labelled as Metro Manila's solution to water shortage; however, it has long been controversial. Many groups continuously oppose its construction because of the effects it will bring mainly to the people of Daraitan village in Tanay, Rizal.
The dam's construction threatens to submerge hundreds of hectares of land including an approximately 1,000 households of Daraitan.
There was no exact date when the construction will commence, but this does not mean that the people have won. The construction order still stands. The threat still exists.
In the presence of the Dam, only the water from the river system remains. People's homes, livelihood, ancestral lands, and the lives that they were used to for generations are expected to be wiped out, submerged in the river depths.
